Accepted Answer

Green, black, white and red pepper are harvested from the same plant. The only difference is the degree of ripeness. Green pepper are the unripe fruits, which are then usually pickled. To obtain black pepper green pepper must be dried and fermented. White pepper is also harvested as a green-orange fruit, but then watered and at the end the outer shell is removed. Red pepper, on the other hand, is the fully ripe fruit.
