Climate impact

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.

Are cashews healthy?

Healthy is first and foremost a balanced and varied diet that covers all the daily nutrients recommended by the DGE. Our cashews can serve you in any case as a source of protein and fiber.

Are dogs allowed to eat cashews?

In small quantities, you can usually feed untreated cashews to your dog. However, it is best to talk to your veterinarian about this.

Are cashews nuts?

No, actually cashews are the seeds of the cashew apple, a stone fruit that grows on the cashew tree.

Why do you have both Fairtrade and conventional cashews in your range?

At KoRo, we want to offer you the widest possible range of products and give you the freedom to choose what you want to buy. Some key differences between organic, conventional and fair trade: Organic products mainly check ecological standards and pay attention to organic farming, using only natural pesticides and no synthetic pesticides compared to conventional farming. In addition to a generally lower yield per hectare compared to conventional agriculture, this is also a reason for the higher price. In conventional agriculture, mainly synthetic chemical pesticides may be used to protect against insects, fungi and weeds, and fertilizers may also be used to accelerate plant growth. But even for conventional foods, there are maximum residue levels that must be observed for the use of pesticides. For Fairtrade products, the focus is on social standards and fair trade conditions that must be observed. You can find out more about this in the FAQ "What does the Fairtrade seal mean?". The compliance with the organic standards is checked by the governmental EU organic regulation and controlled annually by the certification body . The Fairtrade standard is also checked - but there is no governmental definition or regulation of Fairtrade for this. Therefore, it is completely controlled by non-governmental organizations and companies.

Do cashews have a lot of protein?

With 18 g protein per 100 g, our organic Fairtrade Cashews are a source of protein.

Can I roast the cashews?

Of course! You can roast your cashews either in the oven or in a pan. In any case, make sure to turn the kernels regularly. Whether you use oil for roasting is also up to you. It is only important that you use heat-resistant oil. After the kernels have cooled down well, you can refine them with salt and other spices according to your taste. To do this, simply put the kernels with some oil and the spices in a sealable jar and shake it vigorously.

Where do your Fairtrade cashew nuts come from?

Our cashews come from Burkina Faso.

Are the cashews organic?

Yes, our cashews are not only organic, but also carry the Fairtrade seal.

How do I store the cashews and how long do they keep?

Our cashews are best stored in a cool, dry place protected from light. In the original sealed packaging, they have a shelf life of at least 24 months when stored properly.

Can I eat cashews during pregnancy?

From our point of view, there is nothing against a handful of cashews a day during pregnancy. However, we are not experts in this field, so it is best to seek medical advice to be on the safe side.

What does the Fairtrade seal mean?

In order for a food product to be sold as a Fairtrade product, three different standards must be met: ecological, social and economic. The ecological standards include environmentally friendly cultivation of the product and the prohibition of hazardous pesticides. Social standards relate to the empowerment of small farmers and workers, guaranteeing regulated working hours and a ban on exploitative child labor, among other things. The economic standards include transparent trade relations and, above all, the payment of a Fairtrade minimum price and a Fairtrade premium by the traders. This premium is then used for self-selected projects of the producers that serve the community. Compliance with all Fairtrade standards is controlled and certified by FLOCERT, the global certification body for Fairtrade.
