Supply chain information
We source our freeze-dried strawberries from China. This may sound surprising at first, but there are good reasons for it: China is currently the key market for the quantities we need for our freeze-dried fruit. It is currently the only location where producers can supply the required volume and at the same time meet our quality standards with their technological expertise. This means that the transport route is slightly longer, but transport emissions are not actually the biggest factor in the carbon footprint. They only account for a fraction of the total emissions and are significantly lower than the emissions generated by growing and processing the strawberries. You can find out more about this in the ‘Climate impact’ section. However, to avoid additional transport, most of the fresh strawberries also come from the region. For our strawberries, we are currently planning an additional on-site visit and an external audit of our supplier in order to keep an eye on environmental and social standards.
Climate impact
At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.
CO₂ emissions by product
To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.
