Organic black beans | 2kg

Black beans are also known as black turtle beans! Just like kidney beans, quail beans and white beans, however, these particular legumes are not a separate bean species. They are a variety of the bush bean and you can recognise them because they are black, small and shiny. We were won over by the little beans for one very special reason: they have a fairly firm consistency and a spiced, nutty taste. This makes them a popular ingredient for various national dishes worldwide, but also an excellent meat substitute! Well, are you curious? Then buy our organic black beans in the convenient 2 kg pack now!

Searching for the origin of black beans

Just as quietly and creepily as the nickname "turtle bean" suggests, the bean variety is now slowly becoming popular in Germany and other Northern European countries. But where does its origins lie? Black beans have been widespread in China for a long time, but in South America they have been cultivated for over 7000 years. So it's no wonder that the little beans are an important staple food there and should not be missing from any larder! Whether in Brazil, Mexico or Nicaragua - black beans are an integral part of many national dishes. And thanks to the many South American immigrants in the southern states of the USA, they are also all too familiar in Cajun and Creole cuisine. So it's high time we started using them more, too!
