Question 2

How do I store freeze-dried red currants and what is the shelf life of the fruit?

Accepted Answer

Before you order a pound of freeze-dried red currants, you want to know more about the shelf life of the fruit. When stored in a cool, dry place, your bulk pack of currants will keep for 1.5 years. By the way, our Ball Mason Jars are perfect for storing freeze-dried berries. The airtight seal keeps the fruit crisp for a long time and looks decorative when packed in the jar.

Question 3

What is freeze drying and what are its advantages?

Accepted Answer

In freeze-drying, the principle of sublimation removes almost all the water from the food. For this purpose, the fruits are deep-frozen and placed in a vacuum chamber. The vacuum created there causes the water to change directly from ice to steam. This gives the fruit a crispy texture, an even more aromatic taste and a long shelf life. The vitamin-preserving process preserves the nutrients

Question 4

What are the different varieties of currants?

Accepted Answer

You may think of currants first as black or red little berries growing on rampant bushes. In fact, currants are common in more than two colors: Namely, one color variety of red currants comes in white. There are also other varieties of pink and golden yellow currants, but you rarely see them. Regardless of their color, the currants are similar in taste and are characterized by their sour aroma. However, red currants are said to have a slightly sweeter taste and white currants a wine-like aroma.
